Author's Story

She's the brains and brawn behind the book. She's Sam, minus the claws and red shell. Her story was this story's inspiration, and it's nothing short of powerful.

Tonia Allen Gould knows first hand the punches life can throw your way. As a kid, she took on a Great Tidal Wave of her own while growing-up below the poverty line in rural Indiana. As a product of Indiana’s foster care system, Tonia had to fight for her dreams and for her home, just like Sam. Through perseverance and hard work, she succeeded and eventually broke the cycle. She's a mom, a wife and an entrepreneur that believes it's never too late to dream. Now Tonia wants kids to know they can tackle their dreams, no matter what bully, obstacle, or naysayer stands in their way.

#NoMoore Bullying

Whether it was the mocking Seagulls or his arch nemesis, the Great Tidal Wave, Sam figured out how to stand up to his bullies accomplish his dream. Did you know that 49% of children in grades 4-12 have experienced being bullied by other students at school (source: stopbullying.gov). Sam wants this to stop! He wants to have kids accept others for who they are, and more so, feel accepted themselves. Just like Sam, kids can learn to positively overcome bullying through hard work, perseverance and dreaming BIG. Let’s get the word out and give kids a voice to stop bullying. Find Sam on Instagram and let's do it together!
